Islamabad, Aug 11: Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain has cancelled his Ireland visit to administer the oath to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan as the 21st Prime Minister of the country.
Mr Hussain cancelled the visit on the request of caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, Pakistan daily dawn said on Saturday, quoting sources in President House.
Caretaker Information and Law Minister Ali Zafar met Mr Hussain late on Thursday night and conveyed the message of the Prime Minister.
In the wake of the recommendation of the interim Prime Minister, Mr Hussain summoned a session of the National Assembly on August 13 so that the process of government formation could begin.
Earlier, Mr Hussain had decided to proceed to Ireland on August 16 to attend the award-distribution ceremony of Royal College of Physician, where he too had to receive an honorary degree.
Mr Khan’s close aide Naeemul Haq had also urged the President to cancel his official visit to Ireland that was to be concluded on August 19.
