DDC Hoists National Flag

Kupwara, August 15:  The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety at Kupwara today. The main function in the district was
held at DPL Kupwara. District Development Commissioner(DDC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir hoisted the National Flag,
inspected parade and took salute on the march past presented by the contingents of JKP, IRP, Home Guard, CRPF, Forest
Protection Force, and school children.
MLA Kupwara, Bashir Ahmad Dar, SSP Kupwara, Sriram Ambarkar, ACR, CPO, DIO, besides senior officers from civil
administration, police, army, security forces, employees, prominent citizens and overwhelming crowd of people witnessed the
function.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the significance of Independence Day during which he paid rich tributes to the
martyrs who presented their sacrifices for our freedom.
While presenting a comprehensive report on the developmental scenario of the district, the DDC appreciated the role of all the
officers for their strenuous efforts put in by them to achieve targets and towards completing taken up schemes. He also
acknowledged cooperation of the people towards realisation of shared dream of taking district to new heights. He said the district
administration is keen to maintain law and order, achieve revolution of development in the district, for which he sought full
support of people. The DDC said that the district achieved the target in various Centrally Sponsored programmes like Swachh
Bharat Mission (SBM), Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (GSA), Mission Indradhanush, Ujjwala Scheme and other programmes. He said
seven schemes were implemented under GSA, 23,000 families covered under Ujjwala, the target of the scheme being to provide
power supply to all those families who were not earlier connected to the grid.
The DDC reiterated that special emphasis is being given to road connectivity, infrastructure development, besides agriculture,
horticulture, healthcare, sanitation, employment, sports, education, and for this purpose various developmental projects have been
completed so far while as a good number of ongoing projects are being completed in near future. He said that work is apace on
Super Speciality Hospital Kupwara worth Rs. 46 crore and will be completed within stipulated period. He said 300 Kms of roads
have been completed in the district. Under MGNREGA, Rs. 87 crore were incurred generating 20 lakh man-days last year, DDC
added.
Regarding power supply, the DC sought people’s cooperation in Metering Programme so that adequate power supply is provided
to them. He said that Rs.11 crore stands allotted for providing water supply so far, while as land acquired for KVK will be
handed over shortly to them to start their activities.
The DDC assured full support from the district administration to the people and expressed optimism that the district will touch
new heights in near future. He appealed students to pay attention towards education, work hard and win laurels for the district,
state and the country.
The DDC also expressed sympathy with the people of Tangdar and hoped that normal life will resume soon and assured that
district administration stands with the people in these difficult moments. A  cloud burst which occurred in Tangdhar on 14th
August caused massive damage to infrastructure and disrupted normal life. DDC said that every possible support will be provided
to the affected families.
Later, various cultural  programmes were also presented depicting the  culture of Kashmir,  bravery and sacrifices of freedom
fighters.
One of the main features of the programme was a short skit  on Gandhiji and  Shaheed Bhagat Singh, presented by students of
educational institutions.
Prizes were also distributed among the best performers including the cameraman of District Information Centre Kupwara,
Waheed Ul Rehman for dedicated efforts in highlighting the achievements of the district in print and electronic media.
Similar functions were also organized at sub division level here. ADC Handwara and SDM Tangdar unfurled Tricolor at
Handwara and Tangdar respectively and took salute on the march past.
Cultural programmes were also organized at both the places and prizes distributed among best performers and officers for
exemplary dedication.
