Srinagar: An encounter broke out in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district early Friday morning, police said.

Reports said that the joint team of SOG and army have laid a siege at Gadole hamlet of Vailoo area of Kokernag during midnight.

SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan said that the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.

“The contact has been established with the hiding militants at Gadole and the operation is ongoing,” SSP said.

Official sources said that two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the gunfight, authorities snapped internet service in parts of Anantnag district
