Srinagar, Aug 25 :Train service resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for the three days as a precautionary measure in the Kashmir valley, official sources said.
On August 21, all trains were suspended for three days as a precautionary measure in the Kashmir valley in view of the Eid-ul-Azha on August 22, sources told UNI.
The decision to suspend the train service was taken keeping in view the experience of Eid-ul-Fitr when there were stone pelting incidents at several places, causing damage to railway property and injury to passengers.
This time it was decided not to take any chance keeping in view the safety and security of passengers, they added.
However, it was decided last night to resume train service on all routes from Saturday morning, they said.
Therefore, trains will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir, they said, adding that similarly trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley, where people prefer travelling by train which is very cheap, fast and safe as compare to other mode of transport.
However, due to suspension of train service, passengers are the worst hit as they had to pay several times more fare.
