SRINAGAR: Family and relatives of Ummat-e-Islami senior leader Moulana Sarjan Barkati- known for his pro-freedom slogans on Monday staged a protest demonstration at Press colony in Srinagar, seeking the release of Barkati.
Barkati’s wife, daughter, and son along with scores of relatives and neighbors assembled at press colony shouting slogans demanded the release of Barkati. Barkati was arrested in 2016.

Barkati’s daughter Sugra while appealing the authorities to release her father said that: her father’s detention has badly affected their life and education, and without him, they are living a distressed life.
Barkati’s wife Shabrooza said that her husband is the only bread earner of a joint family. The state authorities have kept him in the jail from last two years which leads the family to suffer on daily basis.
Barkati was instrumental in organizing public rallies across South Kashmir in 2016, uprising and since then he is jailed.
