Srinagar: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday called for an all-party meeting today to discuss the issues related to urban local bodies and Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that an all-party meeting will be held in Srinagar with all recognized political parties to elicit their views on various important issues.
Both the main regional parties’ National Conference and People’s Democratic Party have already decided to boycott the upcoming polls, while Jammu and Kashmir’s Pradesh Congress president Ghulam Ahmed Mir said that currently, the ground situation in the Valley is not conducive for holding these polls.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam denied reports that the upcoming municipal elections are likely to be deferred.
Denying earlier reports that the Governor’s administration is considering deferment of municipal polls, the Chief Secretary said: “Municipal and Panchayat polls will be held as per schedule.”
Subrahmanyam was speaking to the media on the sidelines of an official function in Srinagar on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, chief spokesperson PDP Mohammad Rafi Mir confirmed the Kashmir Lifeover phone that the party is not attending the meeting for the reasons that the agenda for the meeting has not been conveyed to them.
