New Delhi, Sep 19 : The Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to enhance the honorarium of Anganwadi workers or helpers and their performance-linked incentives under the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme.
Now an Anganwadi worker would get Rs 4,500 a month instead of old rates of Rs 3,000, while a worker at mini Anganwadi centre would receive Rs 3,500 in place of Rs 2,250. An Anganwadi helper would get Rs 2,250 from Rs 1,500 a month.
Besides, monthly performance-linked incentive of Rs 250 has also been approved for Anganwadi helpers for facilitating proper functioning of Anganwadi centres.
The revised rates would come into effect from October 1, 2018, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told a press conference after a Cabinet meeting.
With the enhanced rates, the government would spend Rs 10,649 crore for a period from October 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020. Of which Rs 6,547.90 crore would be given as honorarium to Anganwadi workers, Rs 463.79 crore as honorarium to mini Anganwadi workers and Rs 3,637.72 crore as honorarium to Anganwadi helpers.
Nearly 27 lakh Anganwadi workers will be benefitted by the approval, Mr Prasad added.
