Srinagar: The fire victims from Chattabal Veer locality of the city today staged a demonstration here in this capital city seeking financial help from the government on compassionate grounds.

The residents, whose houses were burnt in an inferno last month, assembled at Press Colony here and staged a protest, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The protesters shouting slogans โ€œwe want justiceโ€ were demanding financial assistance from the government to rebuild their houses.

โ€œFive of our families were living in a single house that got fully damaged due to the fire. The fire left us homeless. We are living in Private marriage Hall which is under constructionโ€, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, a protester said.

Sheikh said13 families were affected in the blaze that left 8 houses, four among them fully damaged.

Abdul Majeed, another protester said all their belongings were consumed by the fire.

โ€œWe are left with nothing except the clothes we are wearing,โ€ he said, adding โ€œWe appeal authorities to help us to rebuilt our damaged houses,โ€
