SRINAGAR, NOV 13 : The Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (JKSHRC) has issued a notice to Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD) for resorting to unscheduled power cuts both in metered and non-metered areas and for irregular power supply as winter sets in.

The SHRC has sought a report from the Chief Engineer within a weeks time. The chief engineer has been asked to submit a report as to why power cuts are effected even without a notice.

In Srinagar, both metered and non-metered areas are facing erratic power outages from last month leaving public outraged.

In the downtown city, residents say their area reels under darkness for hours from the last month. “No power curtailment schedule has been issued by the PDD this year. It makes the situation worse and disturbs our routine life,” said Ali Mohammad of Safa Kadal.

Last week, entire Kashmir reeled under darkness after snowfall played havoc damaging electricity infrastructure. The supply was restored almost after 24 hours.
