Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest on Monday to prevent him from participating in candlelight vigil against human rights violations in Kashmir, a spokesman said.

He said that Mirwaiz was detained at his Nigeen residence in Srinagar.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik asked people to observe human rights week from today.
