Srinagar, Dec 27 : The Kashmiri Language Union Jammu and Kashmir (KLUJK) on Thursday staged a protest to demand preservation of Kashmir and other languages in the State.
Dozens of members from the Union assembled at Pratap Park here and chanted slogans in Kashmiri language while carrying banners and placards reading ‘we demand promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language’.
The union demanded implementation of the government orders under number “333-Edu of 2017 dated 19-06-2017” to make Kashmiri, Dogri and Bodhi as compulsory sixth subjects in the State of Jammu and Kashmir in class 9th and 10th.
Talking to reporters, General Secretary of the Union said that the government order issued last year was not implemented on the ground as the directorate of School Education didn’t paid any heed over it.
“Kashmir language is our mother tongue and steps must be taken to preserve and promote it,” he said, adding that it is unfortunate that the Kashmiri language and other mother languages are not being taught at the schools.
“We appeal Advisor to Governor, Khursheed Ahmad Ganie and Director School Education Kashmir, G N Itoo to look into the matter and implement the orders on ground so that the language could be preserved,” he said.
Meanwhile, the protesters later marched to Srinagar’s Press Enclave and registered their protest there as well and appealed the higher ups to take measures to preserve and promote the Kashmir language
