New Delhi, Jan 14 :The Supreme Court on Monday sought a detailed reply from the investigating agency, CBI, after hearing the appeal filed by former Congress leader, Sajjan Kumar, who had moved the apex Court challenging the Delhi HC judgement, which had convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
A bench of the apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file the reply on the convict, Kumar’s appeal.
“You (CBI) file a reply on the appeal of the petitioner, (Sajjan Kumar),” the bench or the top Court, led by CJI Gogoi said, and fixed the matter for further hearing after six weeks.
Kumar had moved the apex Court in the winter vacation and challenged the Delhi High Court order.
The Delhi HC had convicted Kumar under criminal conspiracy Act of the Indian Penal code (IPC) and sentenced him to life imprisonment for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
