Srinagar, Mar 21 : Sericulture Department has launched a massive “Mulberry plantation” drive on the eve of World Arbor Day today.
The drive was launched by the Director of the department Riyaz Ahmad Wani by planting saplings of Mulberry on Thursday in South Kashmir’s Wantrag, Anantnag area.
On this occasion, Wani said that directions have been given to all district heads of the department to go for extensive Mulberry plantation this year with an intention to revive the traditional Mulberry Nursery culture in the valley.
He said his efforts would be to revive the Sericulture sector and all efforts would be put in place to see the sector brimming again so that the people associated with the industry are given renewed opportunities to prosper.
He said he will be visiting all the districts in the coming weeks to review the progress of the department.
Earlier, the Director visited South Kashmir on Wednesday and took stock of the various developmental projects of the department in the region.
He was accompanied by the Additional Director Shabir Ahmed Bhat, Deputy Director Sericulture Anantnag Fayaz Ahamed Aga, Deputy Director Baramulla, Mohd Abdullah Bhat and Sericulture Assistants Saima Jan, Masroor Ahmed, Sectional officer Peer Aijaz.
