Srinagar, Feb 10: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) casual labourers on Monday held a protest in the summer capital, Srinagar, in support of their demands, including regularization of services and release of pending wages.

Scores of casual labourers, under the banner of Kashmir Joint Employee Association, assembled in the compound of PHE office on Exchange road in Srinagar and raised their demands.

Holding placards, which read, โ€˜Regularize our servicesโ€™, โ€˜Release our pending wagesโ€™, besides other slogans, the demonstrators threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not fulfilled.

The protestors said they were protesting to remind the Government of its promises. โ€œWe were promised that our issued will be addressed and a committee was constituted to look into the matter,โ€ they said.

However, they said so far no headway has been made by the committee and their issues have not been addressed. โ€œWe are finding it difficult to support our families as our salaries are not released. We are unable to pay bills or fee of our childrenโ€ฆ how are we support to cater to the needs of our families,โ€ they added.

The association said that it has extended full support to the protest of PHE workers in Jammu, who are demonstrating in the winter capital since last four days.

The protestors also demanded regularization as promised by the administration and threatened to intensify protest, besides boycott services if their demands were not fulfilled.
