Srinagar, May 29 : Bad weather has plunged orchards in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district into desperation as the crop has been severely damaged due to intermittent hail and windstorms.
The apple orchards in Rajpora, Abhama, Bagh Sangerwani, Drakladan, Achgoza, and Drabgam areas of the Pulwama district. The devastating hailstorm has resulted in damage to crops and vegetables. However, the assessment of the total damage was not known immediately destroyed by intermittent hail and windstorms that hit the villages.
“This year, we expected a good crop as our orchards seemed to be abundant in apples, but the hail and windstorms have not only dashed our hopes, but also left the orchards in desperation,” said Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Drakladan village.
Eyewitnesses told KNS that hailstorm has inflicted heavy damage on crops like apple, cherry, rice saplings and other vegetables and fruits. The locals have demanded adequate compensation from the government for their losses. (KNS)
