Srinagar, Oct 27: The residents of Checki Prang area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, held a protest against the water scarcity in their area and blocked the traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway.

As per news agency KDC, a large number of people including men, women and children, assembled near Barwullah area of Kangan and blocked the traffic, resulting in traffic getting stranded on the road.

They were raising slogans against the PHE (Jal-Shakti) department, for the poor water supply in their area.

They said that their houses have been provided the water connection, but there is no water supply running through those pipes, with the result they are facing tremendous difficulties due to water shortage in the area.

They requested the administration to look into their difficulty and provide them the water supply in their village.

Meanwhile, the traffic remained suspended on the road for some time, which was later restored after the police authorities reached the spot and requested the protestors to call off their protest, assuring them that their problem will be taken up with PHE authorities and the problem they are facing will be addressed.
