Srinagar, Nov 25: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested eight drug peddlers and recovered huge cache of contraband from them in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

A police spokesperson said that during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, officers at a check point established at Dalwach crossing Qazigund intercepted two vehicles. โ€œDuring checking, police recovered 39 kg of Charas in raw form and 70 gms in solid form from the vehicle,โ€ he said.

He said eight people onboard the vehicles were immediately taken into custody. โ€œThe accused were identified as Saqib Ali Zargar, Waseem Mohammad Trag, Abdul Mujeeb Khanday, Abdul Ahad Malik, Abdul Rashid Malik, Danish Fayaz Makhoomi, Tawheed Fayaz Makhdoomi and Nazir Ahmad Dar,โ€ he said.

He said the vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized. โ€œAccordingly, case FIR No. 307/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated,โ€ he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. โ€œPersons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers,โ€ he said.

โ€œOur consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,โ€ he added.
