Kulgam, Oct 5: The government decision to re-engage retired engineers sparked a protest in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Reports said that technical assistances working under MGNREGA observed a pen down strike on Tuesday against government decision to re-engage retired engineers.

A large number of serving engineers of Rural and Development Department staged a protest and observed pen down strike. One of the protesting engineers told news agency Kashmir News Trust that re-engaging retired engineers will deprive aspirant and unemployed engineer of their rights and it will create unemployment.

They urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to revoke order and engage unemployed young engineers

The protesters said that when thousands of young engineers are sitting jobless at home, re-engaging retired engineers could further compound the problem of unemployment. (KNT)
