In the ongoing year, Kashmir witnessed 68 gunfights between militants and joint forces. Out of these, 43 gunfights alone raged in four districts of South Kashmir, viz, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag.

Central Kashmir witnessed 13 while 12 gunfights raged in North Kashmir in the first half of the current year.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that Pulwama district witnessed the maximum number of encounters that tally to 14, followed by 11 each in Shopian and Kulgam, Srinagar 10, Anantnag and Kupwara 7, Baramulla 3, Budgam and Bandipora 2 each while Ganderbal saw a solitary gunfight in the ongoing year.

Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal turns out the most peaceful district with a single incident of militancy in March when a militant Adil Ahad Khan of Badarkund Ganderbal was killed in Kawbagh Serch village of the district.

Soura in Srinagar, Mirhama in Kulgam and Jumagund in Kupwara were the places that witnessed more than one gunfight.
