Three persons have been arrested with 50 kilograms of endangered medicinal herb in Qalamabad area of Handwara in north Kashmir, police said today.

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), on Sunday a police party of Police Station Qalamabad while on Naka checking duty at Lach area of Qalamabad stopped a vehicle and upon search of the vehicle endangered medicinal herb locally known as Tripatri was recovered.

The arrested persons have been identified as Shafiq Ahmad Khan S/o Ali Mohammad, Reyaz Ahmad Khan S/o Aziz Rehman Khanโ€”both residents of Mankal and Jameel Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Mohammad of Check Sanzipora.

The statement reads that the medicinal herb known as Trillium Govanianum was weighing around 50 kg.

It added that a case FIR No. 39/2022 U/s 26 Forest Act, 379-IPC was registered in PS Qalamabad and investigation has been initiated. (KNS)
