Shiv Sena (UBT) today staged a protest demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Scores of workers from the party led by Jammu-based leader Manish Sahni, assembled near Tawi Bridge and raised slogans in favor of the restoration of statehood.

Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that protesters were carrying placards criticizing the central government for neglect and “step-motherly treatment” towards the Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters were dressed in black bands to symbolize their discontent. They called out the BJP-led government for failing to fulfill promises made over the past five and a half years.

Sahni, while addressing the gathered media, lambasted the BJP Government for what he described as "empty assurances" and argued that the proposed "one country, one election" policy sidesteps the pressing demand for reinstating Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. [KNT]
