Vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was temporarily suspended on Monday due to frosty and slippery road conditions, particularly along the Kharpura to Railway Bypass stretch near Banihal.

SSP Traffic NH, Raja Adil Hamid said that vehicles were getting stuck due to the icy surface, posing serious safety risks. As a precautionary measure, traffic has been halted at Jakhiani, Chanderkote, Marog and other identified safer locations for the time being.

He said road maintenance agencies have been directed to sprinkle salt and urea on the affected stretches to improve traction and restore safe movement of vehicles.

Further updates on the resumption of traffic will be shared after road conditions improve. (KNC)
