Efforts are underway to clear debris from the Baramulla–Uri highway after a landslide blocked the road near NS Bridge on Wednesday, leaving long queues of vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.

The disruption has affected commuters and travelers using the strategic Baramulla–Uri route, forcing authorities to suspend traffic movement as a precautionary measure until the debris is removed and the road is declared safe.

Officials said the landslide triggered a significant accumulation of mud, stones and debris on the road, making it unsafe for vehicular movement.

Authorities immediately halted traffic and deployed machinery and manpower to clear the affected stretch and restore connectivity.

An official said clearance work has been started and efforts are being made to reopen the road for traffic at the earliest.

Meanwhile, stranded commuters said they have been waiting for several hours as vehicles remain halted on both sides of the road.

The Baramulla–Uri highway is an important road link connecting Uri town with Baramulla and other parts of north Kashmir, and disruptions on the route often affect the movement of commuters and goods.

Officials said traffic will be allowed only after the debris is completely cleared and the road is inspected for safety.
