The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Naib Tehsildar posted at Tehsil Office Arwani in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹22,000, officials said.

Officials told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the accused, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Narbal in Budgam district, was caught red-handed during a trap operation laid by the ACB South Kashmir team under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Rouf Ahmad following specific inputs about corruption.

They said the official was apprehended on the spot while receiving the bribe amount, which was also recovered during the operation.

The arrest forms part of ACB’s continued crackdown on corruption in government departments, particularly in the revenue sector where public service delivery remains under close scrutiny, the statement reads.

Following the operation, the accused was taken into custody and shifted to Awantipora for completion of legal formalities.

Officials said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to probe the circumstances leading to the demand and acceptance of the bribe.

The ACB reiterated its resolve to act firmly against corruption and urged the public to report such unlawful practices.
