Authorities in Saudi Arabia routinely suspend Umrah services ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage as part of standard crowd management and security measures.
The policy includes a temporary halt on Umrah visas and requires pilgrims already in the Kingdom on Umrah permits to exit before a specified deadline each year.
As part of the same protocol, entry into the holy city of Makkah is restricted during the Hajj period. Only residents with valid documentation and pilgrims holding official Hajj permits are allowed access.
The measures are implemented annually to regulate the large influx of pilgrims arriving for Hajj and to ensure organized movement, safety, and logistical control in and around the Grand Mosque.
While specific dates and deadlines are announced separately each year by the authorities, the overall framework remains a consistent feature of Saudi Arabia’s Hajj management system.
Officials emphasize that the restrictions are aimed at maintaining order and preventing overcrowding during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
