A mild earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale struck the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, according to seismological data.

The tremor was recorded at 09:57:54 IST on May 8, 2026, with its epicentre located at latitude 33.289°N and longitude 76.739°E. The earthquake originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.

Kishtwar, situated in the mountainous interior of Jammu and Kashmir, falls in a seismically active zone, making the region prone to frequent low to moderate intensity tremors.

No immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life have been received so far. However, authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.
