A wild black bear that had been roaming Noorkha village in Uri area of Baramulla district, instilling fear among local residents, was successfully captured by the Wildlife Department on Saturday.

A wildlife official said locals had spotted the bear in the area for some time and informed the department a few days ago. Following the report, a cage was installed at the site, and the bear was captured on Saturday morning.

The official added that the bear will undergo a medical check-up before being transferred to a wildlife sanctuary.
