A practice once largely unfamiliar in Kashmir is gradually finding space in Eid-ul-Adha preparations, with camel traders arriving in the Valley and encouraging people to opt for camel sacrifice ahead of the festival.
Traders say interest has grown in recent years, particularly among groups looking for a shared and economical option, as Islamic tradition permits a camel sacrifice to be shared by up to seven persons. While sheep and goats have traditionally dominated Kashmir's Eid trade, sellers say that pattern is slowly changing as awareness of the practice spreads.
The camels have also become a point of attraction in local markets, drawing curious visitors around holding areas and transport vehicles.
