Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested six persons and also seized six vehicles involved in illegal transportation of minerals in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a statement, issued to the news agency—-Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that raids at different locations including Fatehgarh and Jihama areas were conducted during which six persons were arrested, besides six vehicles including five tractors and a tipper were seized.

The statement reads that multiple complaints were pouring in from the villages that some vested interests are indulging in illegal practice of mineral extraction from the Nallahs.

The arrested persons were identified as Muzamil Ahmad Bhat, Mudasir Rasheed Dar, Firdous Ahmad Malla, Tajamul Bashir Malla, Nisar Ahmad Bhat and Abdul Majeed Lone–all residents of Baramulla.

It reads separate cases under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Stations in Sheeri and Baramulla and further investigations were set into motion.

Notably, locals from different places across the district including Sopore’s Ningli, Chakrody Khan, MET have been complaining that illegal sand extraction was rampant while the administration has failed to act—(KNO)
