Srinagar: Unprecedented security arrangements had been made for the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today to south Kashmir, where a policeman was killed and another was injured in a militant attack last evening despite high alert.
Security forces and state police personnel had been deployed in strength on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, particularly between Pampore to Anantnag to prevent any demonstration or stone pelting today, when there is a strike call by separatists in protest against the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived here yesterday on a four day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Singh is scheduled to visit south Kashmir today to meet and address police personnel and paramilitary troops.
Security forces had established Naka at several places on the highway and vehicles were being searched and passengers frisked before allowing them to move towards their respective destination.
For the past 24 hours, security forces conducted search operations in the villages adjacent to highway, between Awantipora to Qazigund.
Additional security forces and state police personnel, wearing bullet proof jackets have been deployed in main towns to prevent any demonstrations.
Fresh advisory has been issued to field commanders to remain on high alert during the visit of Mr Singh after a police constable was killed and another injured by militants in Anantnag last evening.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, spearheading the agitation, have called for general strike against the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived here yesterday on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
