Newly elected Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the early restoration of statehood for the Union Territory.

This was Abdullah's first visit to the capital since taking office last week, following a recent terror attack in Ganderbal that claimed seven lives.

Abdullah informed Shah about the current situation and emphasized the need for restoring statehood, which his cabinet had previously passed a resolution for during its first meeting.

The resolution aims to reinstate constitutional rights and protect the unique identity of the region's residents.

Abdullah is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit.
