8 gamblers arrested, say Awantipora police

In a continued crackdown on social crimes, police have arrested eight individuals allegedly involved in gambling activities in the Bajwani area of Tral.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Police Station Tral, led by SHO Inspector Abdul Rashid and supervised by SDPO Tral Rajesh Kumar, raided the location. The operation resulted in the arrest of the following individuals:

  1. Mohd Abdullah Malla, son of Ab Khaliq Malla, resident of Shilvat Sonawari, Bandipora

  2. Mohd Ashraf Mir, son of Gh Mohd Mir, resident of Dadsara, Tral

  3. Tanveer Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Yaqoob Wani, resident of Haal Mughalpora, Shopian

  4. Aashiq Hussain Sofi, son of Gh Mohd Sofi, resident of Saidakadal, Srinagar

  5. Aasif Bashir Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, resident of Hawal Jogiwan, Srinagar

  6. Arshid Ahmad Shah, son of Gh Mohi-ud-Din Shah, resident of Nowhatta, Srinagar

  7. Mohd Rafiq Rather, son of Gh Ahmad Rather, resident of Achambal Panthachowk

  8. Ajaz Ahmad Shah, son of Ab Hamid Shah, resident of Tashwan, Zainakadal, Srinagar

Police seized stake money amounting to Rs.1,67,000 and playing cards at the site. The accused have been taken into custody and shifted to the police station.

A case (FIR No. 108/2025) under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral, with further investigation underway.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to dealing firmly with criminal activities and have urged the public to report any such incidents in their neighbourhoods to local police units.
