The West Bengal Government has made the singing of Vande Mataram mandatory during morning assembly prayers in all Madrasas across the state before the start of academic classes, with immediate effect.

The directive, issued by the Directorate of Madrasa Education on May 19, applies to Government Model Madrasahs, government-aided recognised Madrasas, approved MSKs and SSKs, and recognised unaided Madrasas under the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department.

The order overrides all previous instructions on assembly prayers in Madrasa institutions.
