The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) on Friday demolished an allegedly unauthorized structure in Sonamarg as part of its drive against illegal constructions in the tourist resort.

Officials said the action was taken on the directions of the Chief Executive Officer after the individual allegedly continued construction despite being served a notice earlier.

The demolition, carried out under the supervision of SDA officials, has sparked debate among local stakeholders over alleged selective enforcement against illegal structures in the area.

Residents and stakeholders urged the authority to conduct a comprehensive survey of all unauthorized hotels, restaurants and commercial establishments in Sonamarg and ensure uniform action against violators.
