‘152 militants killed so far in Kashmir this year’

Srinagar: A militant was killed on Tuesday as Army foiled an alleged infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“An infiltration bid has been eliminated in general area Zorawar of Uri sector. One militant was killed,” an Army official said.

He said a weapon was recovered from the site of the encounter.

Pertinently, on Sunday, Army claimed that it killed four infiltrators in Uri Baramulla.

In the first nine months of the year 2017, 152 militants, mostly top ranked have been killed in Kashmir Valley. In 2015, the figure was 102 while in 2016, the number of militants killed were 144.

In the current year, so far 286 persons including 152 militants, 67 civilians and 68 security personnel have been killed across Jammu and Kashmir. Last year in 2016, 372 causalities were reported in Valley while the figure in 2015 was 197.
