Srinagar: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi today celebrated Diwali with soldiers posted along the Line of Control (LOC) in Gurez sector in North Kashmir, former chief minister Omar Abdullah today said the biggest gift for the area will be physical and mobile connectivity.

“@PMOIndia Physical & mobile connectivity would be your biggest gifts to the area this Diwali jenab. #HappyDiwali @narendramodi Sahib,” Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

“You will have noticed that you canโ€™t tweet from there sir. Thatโ€™s because there is no data & almost no mobile service. Please do help with it,” he added.

Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides remains cutoff from the rest of the country for over six winter months.

The border town also has a very bad mobile connectivity though some VSL phones have been installed, but locals allege that it hardly works. The government has also recently launched helicopter service between Gurez and Srinagar at subsidized rates.
