New Delhi, Dec 18 : A triumphant Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday exulted over the poll verdict declaring the BJP win with the words that it was a victory for both development and Gujarat, Attributing the electoral win handed to him to the electorate’s craving for development, Mr Modi tweeted: ‘ ‘Jeeta vikas, jeeta Gujarat’ Jay jay garvee Gujarat!’
His response came at the culmination of a hectic campaigning in his home state where the ruling BJP, fighting one of the most bitterly and closely contested Assembly elections, romped home safely and was all set to retain Gujarat having won 22 seats against 17 by close rival Congress as per the Election Commission figures till 1430 hrs.
The saffron party was maintaining a lead in 77 seats while the Congress was ahead on 60, as per the results and trends of counting of votes in the Assembly elections available at 1430 hrs.
