New Delhi, Dec 21: The Government is taking required steps for extradition of fugitive Zakir Naik, Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh (retd) stated in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said that since National Investigation Agency (NIA) which was investigating the Naik’s cases, the request for his extradition has been submitted the NIA Special Court, Mumbai for completing the necessary requirement. Thereafter, it will be sent to External Affairs Ministry for its onward transmission to the government of Malaysia under India-Malaysia Extradition Treaty.

Zakir Naik has been granted the permanent residency (PR) status by the Malaysian government, Minister added.
