Srinagar, Dec 28: Despite government announcing winter vacation in all its colleges in the Kashmir province, several institutions are not abiding by the order and are compelling the contractual lecturers to attend the institutions.

The college Principals of Boys and Girls Anantnag, Bijbehara, Pulwama, Baramulla, Handwara and Sopore are compelling the teachers to attend offices when there are no classes being held.

Scores of contractual lecturers in the colleges lamented that the Principals are compelling them to attend the institutions even when there is no official work going on during the vacation period.

“There is no government order which asks us to attend to the colleges. The colleges were closed for winter vacation but many Principals are forcing us to come,” a contractual lecturer working in a north Kashmir college said on condition of anonymity.

There are thousands of contractual lecturers teaching on paltry wages in the state colleges. In the Valley, all colleges in the Srinagar city including the Nodal College, Amar Singh College, have followed the vacation order, but in the peripheries the order is not being obeyed by the Principals.
