Baramulla, Jan 6 : North Kashmir’s Sopore town observed a shutdown on Saturday to mark the anniversary of 50 civilians killed in 1993.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in the apple township of Sopore and other areas.
Work in government offices, banks and other public sector undertakings also remained affected due to the strike.

Additional security forces and state police were deployed in the town and other areas to maintain law and order situation.

The strike call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik.
