On Friday, a complete shutdown was observed in Kupwara due to a strike call by separatists on Republic Day (RD).

Work in government offices and banks was affected due to the strike.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) and JKLF, had urged people in Kupwara to observe a strike against death of 22 civilians in alleged security force firing on January 27, 1990.
