Bhubaneswar:ย  Odisha government has imposed a ban on the production, sale of chickens and chicken products in Paradip area of jagatsinghpur district for three months after the blood samples of a chicken sent to High Security Animal Diseases Laboratory Bhopal found to be H5N1 positive.
State animal resources and husbandry department secretary Vishal Gagan told newspersons here that in total 314 blood samples were sent to Bhopal out of which twoโ€”the blood of a chicken and a duck were found positive.
He said, culling of chickens in the area has already started to ensure that the disease does not spread to newer areas.
He said a decision was taken to cull 2,000 chickens within one km radius of Badapadia and Sandhaakuda area where bird flu was detected. As many as six teams have been constituted to cull the birds.
As a precautionary measure, two teams have been deployed for surveillance within 10 km radius and six teams have been deployed to cull the birds.
The secretary said compensation would be paid to the chicken owners whose birds would be culled from the state disaster management fund.
Meanwhile, the Jagatsinghpur district administration has stopped supply of eggs to students in the area under the mid-day meal scheme.
