Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in south Kashmir’s Anantnag soon after the culmination of Friday prayers.

Local sources said that hundreds of protesters took to streets after the congregational prayers who raised anti-India and anti-Israel slogans.

However the protesters were intercepted at Rishi Bazar resulting in clashes.

Local sources said that forces resorted to tear smoke shelling against the stone pelting protesters and arrested many of them near the Jamia Masjid.

Pro-freedom leaders had called for observing the last Friday of ongoing Ramzan as “Qudu Day and Kashmir Day” to highlight what they called the occupation of Palestine and Kashmir. (Agencies)
