Rajouri: A 35-year-old woman was Thursday killed and her husband injured allegedly in mortar shelling by Pakistan in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu division.

A police officer told GNS that the woman Akhtar Bi and her husband Mohmmad Hanief (40) received injuries when a motor shell hit a village in Laam belt of Nowshera sector.

Both the injured have been hospitalised, however, the woman succumbed to her injures, the officer said.

The officer alleged that Pakistani Army initiated indiscriminate firing from small arms and mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector in Rajouri district around 10.30 pm yesterday.

The troops manning the fence retailed effectively and the intermittent firing for several hours, the officer said.

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of woman and injuries to her husband in Nowshehra sector of Rajouri district today due to cross LoC firing.

The Chief Minister has directed the Rajouri district administration to provide all assistance and help to the injured in the incident. (GNS)
