Kupwara: Government forces on Tuesday launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) after gunshots were heard in a village in Handwara of the neighbouring Kupwara district.

Special operations group (SOG) of police and army this afternoon cordoned off Ganapora village of Handwara after a dozen gunshots were heard, locals told Local Media.

They said two more villages Udipora and Yaroo have also been cordoned off by government forces suspecting militants to be hiding there.

“The govt forces believe militants are hiding in the area. They are firing warning shots expecting reaction from the militants,” they added. (Agencies)
