Srinagar: Two people, including a senior government officer are believed to be dead in a tragic accident at Kolahoi Glacier in south Kashmirโ€™s Anantnag district.

Excise and taxation officer (ETO) Naveed Jeelani and Adil Shah of Alpine Group are presumed dead while another man identified as Hazik suffered minor injury when a group of 9-10 trekkers fell into a crevice at Kolahoi Glacier in picturesque Pahalgam valley of Anantnag district, officials told Kashmir Reader.

Immediately, teams of police, SDRF and local volunteers launched a rescue operations in the area.

โ€œChief Secretary is personally reviewing the rescue operation and has authorised Air Rescue operation. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has asked Air Force to launch rescue early morning with winching facility,โ€ย director Disaster Management Aamir Ali said.

He said that the ground teams were expected to make contact with the trekkers in a few hours.
