Shopian: Violent protests broke out Sunday in two villages of this south Kashmir district after government forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO).

Witnesses told KR that scores of people, mostly youth hit the streets in Tekkipora and Ronipora villages in Dangam belt here this afternoon when army and policemen assisted by paramilitary CRPF laid a siege in the twin villages to launch combing operations, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Chanting slogans, the youth hurled rocks at the government forces to resist the CASO.

“The government forces burst tear gas canisters to disperse the angry youth. However, the youth regrouped and continued attacks on the government forces. This led to outbreak of fierce clashes,” witnesses said. (KR)
