Srinagar, Sep 18 : Train service resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for three days in the Kashmir valley due to security reasons.
Train service was suspended on Saturday in north Kashmir as there was some protests while in south Kashmir, the service was suspended as a precautionary measure following the killing of five Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a general strike yesterday against the killings of five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants by security forces in an encounter. A civilian also died and several others were injured in security force action on demonstrators who were trying to disrupt Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Saturday.
A fresh advisory was received last night to resume train service in the valley this morning, a senior railway officer told UNI.
He said trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla, in north Kashmir track. Similarly, trains will run on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, he added. (UNI)
