Srinagar: Intense pro-freedom and anti-India protests erupted in Kashmir University on Thursday against the killing of a militant in a shootout with the government forces in southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources said that scores of hostel boarders of MA and MAK boys hostels assembled at the varsity campus in Hazratbal and staged a protest against the killing of Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Padgampora, Awantipora. The slain militant was pursuing B. Pharmacy course at the varsity before jpining militant ranks on October 2 this year.

They said that protesting students marched through the varsity campus raising massive anti India and pro freedom slogans.

Bhat was killed in an ambush laid by 50 RR of army and Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police in Dougam Kakapora. (Agencies)
