Sumbal, July 16: A Kisan Mela was organized in Sumbal Division of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district even as authorities have implemented lockdown in the Tehsil for 48 hours in wake of rising Coronavirus cases.

District Development Commissioner Bandipora yesterday issued a formal order directing closure of markets and business establishment and vehemently laid stress on the use of masks and maintaining social distance.

Sources told news agency KNT, that Agriculture Department violated that order and organized a Kisan Mela in which scores of people participated.

Sources said that Chief Agriculture officer Bandipora organized ‘Kissan Pakawada’ in which the District Development Commissioner was the Chief Guest himself. Besides DDC, Director Agriculture and SDM Sumbal were present on the occasion.

In the said program of Kissan Pakawada, employees from different departments including Agriculture, Sericulture, Fisheries, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry participated. Sources said that over 150 people gathered giving a damn to Covid-19 threat.

An employee from Agriculture Department told KNT that employees are helpless and have no option but to attend these Kisan Programs. “What can a subordinate do, when his officer directs him to be present,” he added. (KNT)
